Brought
up in Oxford with Anglo/Italian/French parenthood already
ensured an openness to most cultures, but despite parental
influence, Christina never could embrace the discipline of
classical training, and to the despair of her opera loving
family, bought herself a guitar, taught herself to play, and
wrote her first tunes, determined to become a busker!
This
wish was very nearly fulfilled as later on when living in
Malawi with her family, Christina jumped at the opportunity
of joining a folk trio there, even meeting up at the Blantyre
Folk Club with the legendary late Trevor Crozier, the wonderful
eccentric songwriter of some of the most well known hits from
The Wurzels, A fact that was completely lost on Christina
at the time, since young as she was, she had no idea who The
Wurzels were!
Upon
her eventual arrival in France, Christina was noticed at her
very first solo performance by the proprietor of the prestigious
jazz venue Le Petit Journal Montparnasse in Paris, where such
icons as Stephane Grappelli, Enrico Macias and Sacha Distel
regularly plied their art.
However,
the need to earn an honest living led Christina away from
this promising debut on the Parisien jazz scene and she joined
France's top Western Swing band as lead female vocalist.
This
led to regular appearances on the national TV networks TF1
and France2, a recording contract - coupled with mainstream
distribution (currently distributed through La Fnac) - and,
most importantly for any musician(!), a regular income!
Despite
reaching notoriety at the top of this niche market, the need
to realise her own creativity was fast becoming irresistible.
Too well known in France as the lead vocalist for Les Westerners,
it was in the UK that Christina would finally be able to take
the plunge and become a solo artist in her own right.
Since
making her UK debut in February 2004, Christina has delighted
audiences throughout the West Country, including Bristol,
Cheltenham and her adopted home county of Wiltshire, where
she was invited to play at Marlborough Jazz Festival. November
2004 saw her recording her first live concert for BBC Radio
Wiltshire, which was broadcast in late December of that year.
In
2005 Christina took her music to Theatre audiences, from The
Arc in Trowbridge in January to The Rondo in Bath in December
2005, finding there an enthusiastic following for her eclectic
and original talent.
With
the onset of 2006, Christina continues to build on her quite
unique blend of authentic versions of well loved French numbers
coupled with her own strong songwriting in both languages,
creating an originality rarely seen these days.
In
response to ever increasing demand from her fans, in January
of this year. Christina released her debut CD "Every
Time" a collection of live recordings of her early love
songs.
In
May 2006 she released the CD "Voices for Malawi",
a concert of original music held in aid of the Joshua Orphan
Care Trust In Malawi - this little African country which has
meant, and continues to mean so much to her.
Christina
is currently working on new material to be released in 2008,
and planning tours, both overseas and in the UK.
